To provide support and skillset training in the health and wellness sector to young female survivors of human trafficking in India and North America by supporting these individuals during their recovery and healing processes to acquire real-world skills with which to live healthy and independent lives.
We have and continue to make great impact with our programs and partnerships in India, the US and in Canada and continue to strive toward our goal of making a global impact.
Our six-month program teaches survivors an internationally recognized physical fitness certification course, that helps them improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. We then fund their training apprenticeships, during which they work with fellow residents, staff, and other local organizations, and facilitate their move into transitional homes and finding work in neighboring gyms. This approach has been successful in helping survivors gain valuable employable skills that are well-suited for the global $3.5 billion health and wellness industry.
3-2-1 Empower raises the awareness of the dangers of human trafficking in the US and works to provide similar education and employment opportunities for survivors in Orange County California and across the US. We work closely with the Human Trafficking task force and with Vanguard University’s Global Center for Women and Justice in Orange County. By offering similar fitness and employment education in local safe houses, we hope to create a lasting impact and bring about positive change in the global fight against human trafficking.
We launched our first US-based pilot project at The Dragonfly Human Trafficking Transition Home in Oklahoma City, in February 2023. Workouts continue twice a week for 45 minutes led virtually by 3-2-1 Empower founder Ramona Braganza. Participants are survivors of human trafficking – strong, courageous women who are getting the opportunity to express their strength and courage, physically and mentally, by learning a variety of skills from yoga to weight training, dance and kickboxing.
Prerana, a Mumbai-based NGO that aims to end intergenerational prostitution, continues to have a positive impact. Ten survivors have graduated from our fitness program with a group aerobic certificate, and a designated gym, complete with strength training equipment, has been established in Prerana’s Naunihal Girls’ Shelter in Mumbai. A graduate of the program will soon be undertaking employment at a local gym.
